07/05/05: What do you know, it's done!
Yep, the new CD, 'Realization of the Shadow' is done. Check out some samples on the media page. Dean and I are trying to decide how to release it. I'll probably send it to a few labels just to see if anyone is interested, but most likely Dean and I are going to start up a label (again). Dean's got another IST album almost done, I'm anxious to start making the next album, and it would be nice if we could just do it on our own terms. Lots of work though...
04/06/05: Yes, we are still working on it!
Nearly a year later, The new QD album is almost done. Dean has completed all his vocals. All that is left is some guest vocal spots, maybe a few more samples and some mix tweaking. The album finally has a name as well: 'Realization of the Shadow'. oooh, Jungian reference...
10/23/04: Damn, has it been 3 months already?
Well we are still working on it. More vocals. Jyri's violin. Lots and lots of strange noises. Realisticly even after it is 'done' I'll probably spend another couple months tweaking shit and obsessing over snare drum sounds. Still, we are really happy with how it is turning out. You can actually hear Dean singing without it sounding like those pop albums where the music is waaay in the background compared to the vocals (which we hate).
07/23/04: Coming Along Nicely...
We are about half done, I would say with the new CD. Music is coming together and Dean has been writing and singing. We even had an oboist from the Oregon Symphony over the other day. Soon... very soon. OK, more like six months or so. But if Skinny Puppy can get away with 5 years between albums, well why not...
05/02/04: The Stars Have Aligned
And work has begun in earnest on the next QD album. About 8 song 'fragments' have been created - much more work needs to be done on them. So far about 37 minutes of music, so about half-way there. Dean has settled in Seattle and is busy writing lyrics. This may end up being a concept album, if we come up with a cool concept.
04/02/04: New Quantum Dot Single
So we got a new single out. It is called Hyacinth Girl (the title is a T.S. Eliot reference in an obvious attempt to make us look 'literary'). You can download it off this site, and with any luck it may be on a Projekt Records compilation (collective fingers crossed). It is kindy of ambient, kinda pretty - a calm before the sonic onslaught of the next full length QD release. It features some great vocals from NightMare Boy and Alison. Check out their real bands The Sins and Medicine For Melancholy
03/25/04: Unconfirmed Dean sighting in PDX
Word on the street is that the mercurial other half of The Quantum Dots was sighted staggering down a Portland street with a bottle of spanish absinthe in his hand.
03/15/04: Song Progresses/Dean back in USA!
Eric went up to Seattle this weekend to record Nightmare Boy's vocals for the new song. The results sound fantastic! Also the other half of QD is back in the country. If you are in San Fransisco, you might see him there. Buy him a beer - he deserves it.
03/05/04: 'Hit Single'
The folks in QD are hard at work writing a song to submit for an upcoming Projekt Records compilation. The track has turned out very nice and ambient. Since Dean is in Europe right now, a couple of folks have been kind enough to lend their vocal talents: NightMare Boy from the Sins and Alison from Medicine For Melancholy. Ali is also going to play some flute on it. We'll post it up here when it is done.
03/02/04: Eric's second career
At least for a little while, Eric is going to DJ on Second Shifters' Internet Radio. He will be on Thursdays from 9pm-12 Pacific Time. He will resist the tempation to play QD over and over and instead delve into his hard drive with the thousands of songs that he has ripped from his CD collection. Should be fun!
03/01/04: Back to Work
Work has begun on the next Quantum Dots album. It should be (even) weirder, heavier, prettier, er more QDish than Inventing Reality. Eric has decided to go totally into debt and buy a bunch of toys.
